Green School Programme
Report on Teacher's Training Programme Sikkim July 27-28, 2010 Green School Programme (GSP) is a self-assessment programme in which teachers and students perform rigorous environment audits of water, air, land, energy and waste within their school premise. It aims to encourage and support schools to build up an environmentally aware, active and skilled community of teachers, students and parents. GSP was launched for the first time in Sikkim at a State level in 2009 in which about 140 schools participated. Three government schools of the state have been conferred National Awards for 2009 based on the all India green school ratings, namely; • Govt. Sec. Climate change refers to a statistically significant variation in either the mean state of the climate
or in its variability, persisting for an extended period (typically decades or longer). Climate change may
be due to natural internal processes or external forcing, or to persistent anthropogenic changes in the
composition of the atmosphere or in land use. Although climate change has been a salient issue for the
scientific community for several decades, it exploded upon the world stage in full force only in 2007.
